IP Short-Term Certificate

If you are interested in studying in the U.S. for three to 12 months without completing a degree or a Washington state-awarded certificate, consider enrolling in an IP Short-Term Certificate (IP-STC). IP-STCs offer maximum flexibility in choosing college classes and can satisfy a wide range of goals. Make this program your gap year or semester abroad experience, or take courses to transfer back to your home institution or to satisfy prerequisites for another university.

IP-STCs can be completed either online or in person. However, for students taking online classes remotely from outside the United States, class selection may be more limited.

Upon completion of an IP-STC of at least nine months, you may be able to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT). OPT allows students on an F-1 or M-1 visa the opportunity to pursue a paid internship or employment to gain practical, on-the-job experience relevant to their field of study. Students who enroll in the General Studies IP-STC are not eligible for OPT.

You may request a certificate of completion from International Programs after you have finished your IP-STC. Official transcripts will also document all classes taken at Seattle Colleges. Please note, however, that because IP-STCs are administered and awarded by International Programs, registration offices at Seattle Colleges do not include the certificate on transcripts.
